Fluffy Homemade Garlic Naan!

🫓 Makes 6 Naan 🌱 100% Vegan ⏱️ 3 Hrs (Mostly Resting)

Naan is a delicious flatbread originating from North India, and it’s hands down one of my favorite side dishes ever! 😋 This homemade version is so incredibly fluffy, rich, buttery, and that fresh garlic flavor absolutely hits the spot… 🥰

🛒 Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 1/3 cup (90ml) plant milk (room temp)
  • 1/8 cup (30ml) water (room temp)
  • 1 Tsp instant yeast
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 1/4 cup (60g) vegan yogurt
  • 2 cups (260g) flour
  • 1 Tsp baking powder
  • A generous pinch of salt

🌿 For the Garlic "Butter":

  • 1/4 cup (60g) vegan butter, melted
  • 4 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • A handful of chopped fresh parsley

👩‍🍳 How to Make It

  1. Mix & Knead: Combine all of your dough ingredients in a large bowl. Knead the mixture for 5-10 minutes until you have a smooth, elastic dough.
  2. Let it Rest: Cover the bowl and let the dough rest in a warm spot for 1-2 hours, or until it has beautifully doubled in size.
  3. Portion & Roll: Punch the dough down and divide it evenly into 6 pieces. On a nicely floured surface, flatten and roll each piece out into that classic tear-drop naan shape.
  4. Mix the Butter: While rolling, whisk together your melted vegan butter, minced garlic, and chopped parsley in a small bowl.
  5. Fry & Brush: Heat a pan with a little oil over medium-high heat. Fry the naan on one side. While it's cooking, generously spread your garlic butter over the top surface.
  6. Flip: As soon as large bubbles start to appear on the dough, flip it over! Brush more garlic butter on the freshly cooked side. Cook until golden brown spots appear on the bottom, and serve warm!

Serve this alongside your favorite curry or just eat it straight out of the pan. Enjoy your fluffy flatbreads!
