Cioccolata Calda (Hot Chocolate Italian-Style)

Ingredients:
- 500ml of whole milk
- 100g of dark chocolate (70% cocoa or higher)
- 25g of sugar
- 1 tablespoon of cornstarch
- Pinch of salt
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- Whipped cream for serving (optional)

Instructions:
- In a medium saucepan, heat the whole milk over medium heat until it's warm but not boiling.
- While the milk is heating, finely chop the dark chocolate and set it aside.
- In a separate bowl, mix the cornstarch with a few tablespoons of the warm milk to create a slurry and avoid lumps, then set aside.
- Once the milk is warm, add the sugar, salt, and vanilla extract, stirring to combine.
- Stir in the chopped dark chocolate and continue to whisk until it's completely melted and combined with the milk.
- Pour in the cornstarch slurry while continuously stirring to thicken the mixture. Keep stirring until the hot chocolate reaches your desired thickness (it should be creamy and rich). Remove from heat.
- Serve the hot chocolate in mugs topped with whipped cream if desired.
