Italian Steak Pizzaiola

Ingredients:

  • 2 ribeye steaks (about 200g each)
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 400g of canned diced tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon of dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon of dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Kitchen Tools Needed:

  • Frying pan
  • Knife
  • Cutting board
  • Measuring spoons
  • Serving plates

Instructions:

  • Heat the olive oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat.
  • Season the ribeye steaks with salt and pepper on both sides.
  • Add the steaks to the hot pan and sear for about 4-5 minutes per side for medium rare, or until cooked to your liking. Remove steaks from the pan and set aside to rest.
  • In the same pan, add the sliced onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  • Add the minced garlic and sauté for another minute until fragrant.
  • Pour in the canned diced tomatoes and add oregano and basil. Stir well and bring the sauce to a simmer.
  • Season the sauce with salt and pepper to taste and let it simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing it to thicken slightly.
  • Slice the rested steaks and return them to the pan, nestling them into the sauce. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to warm them through and combine flavors.
  • Serve the steak slices topped with the sauce and fresh basil leaves for garnish.
